Inaugural Cross Training

i spent my day off checking out the inauguration of President Barack Obama...my initial thought was why would i want to spend all day in the cold with a worse view than i could get at home on tv...i was WRONG.

i often think that i don't embrace enough of what the DC area has to offer. i put up with the traffic and high housing costs that we DC-ites complain about...it's a bonding ritual...you know...like jocks constantly slapping each other's behinds...i still haven't figured that one out, but then again...i'm not in that club.

The crowd filling in near the reflecting pool

i'm really glad that i took advantage of the opportunity to soak in today's events.  the crowd was pumped up...and not because of the governator's presence...with alot of people sporting their Obama merchandise

An Obama knit cap

PBO has the funk and the soul because this crowd is fired up

You can read a recap by Kevin here...he took more pictures of the famous people on the big screen...it's worth checking out to see the unintended compromising picture of VP Biden. And here's a picture to prove that we were in the thick of it...that's Aimee next to Kevin.

At the WWII memorial

how does the cross training fit in? well...a walk from Union Station to Aimee's place to the WWII memorial back to Aimee's place via Eastern Market for lunch then back to Union Station plus a short walk home from metro...all told...i walked about 10 miles today...not bad for an off day.

i'll leave you with this one...it may look like "OBAMA IS GO"...but in fact the last letter is traced out as...and eventually will be a "D"...misguided and a bit scary to me.

I hope they don't actually believe that

A Smoking "Hero of Health"

last night...Jeff informed me that President Elect Barack Obama was named a Hero of Health and Fitness by Men's Health Magazine in their latest issue. PEBO eats well, works out six days a week, and looks fit.

sounds great...except for one prudent question: how can a person who wouldn't even be recruited to work at the World Health Organization (because of his smoking habit) be named Hero of Health and Fitness? interesting...

this is not a slight toward PEBO...if he chooses to smoke...it's entirely his decision. in fact, he should be commended for trying to end his two decade old habit. rather, my question is intended to highlight the hypocrisy of Men's Health's choice...they don't even mention PEBO's smoking in the online article...and the irony of a smoker being named Hero of Health and Fitness.

does this mean that i should expect some blogger of the year recognition? i do have 2 dedicated readers...thanks to (future) Dr. J (the wife) and Kevin.
